The story of Paul J. Schmitt, Jeweler begins in the summer of 1945 in northern Indiana where Paul Schmitt, then 15 at the time, was given a set of precision screw drivers and told he was going to work that morning. As he set off with his father to the family jewelry store, little did he know where this burgeoning career in watchmaking would take him. Well, to say the least- it served him well. From travels around the planet to the highest accolades given by the American Gem Society and the Gemological Institute of America, that little assortment of precision screw drivers grew into something quite special. Paul, accompanied by his assortment of precision screw drivers, began a career that was to span 55 years.
Paul Schmitt left the family business and the cold weather of northern Indiana in 1971 and headed south. By divine guidance he ended up in a sleepy little town with a quiet pier and beautiful weather. Here is where he found paradise. Paul Schmitt, Jeweler, officially opened in 1971 and has remained true to its original purpose of being a fine, full service jeweler ever since. It is now under the direction of Paul's youngest son, Adam Schmitt, who himself received his own set of screw drivers in 1990. Since that fateful day Adam has attended classes at the C F H Institute in Lausanne, Switzerland; Southeby's in London; and holds degrees with the Gemological Institute of America.
